We are excited to announce the Keynote Speaker at DARE2B for 2019 will be Vincent Shin.
Vincent is a senior lawyer in the youth law team at WEstjustice Community Legal Centre. In 2015, Vincent was employed as Australia’s first School Lawyer to provide students with legal advice and representation. He spent 4 years at Grange P12 College as their school lawyer but is now based 2 days a week at Tarneit Senior College whilst also heading up the School Lawyer Program at WEstjustice.
In 2017, Vincent’s story was featured on ABC’s Australian Story where the documentary explored his personal experience with family violence and showcased his very unique role as a school lawyer.
Prior to commencing his work as the school lawyer, he worked as a solicitor in a small suburban firm in the areas of family law and family violence.
Whilst studying law he also worked for over 3 years as a carer in residential care homes for young people removed by child protection. Alongside this paid work during his degree, he also volunteered for over 3 years at the then Footscray Community Legal Centre as a paralegal in the areas of consumer law and then as a volunteer lawyer in the family violence intervention order duty lawyer service at the Sunshine Magistrates’ Court.
Vincent completed his Bachelor of Laws(Hons) degree at Victoria University and was the recipient of the Modelling a Generous Community Award from the Commission for Children and Young People at the 2016 Protecting Children Awards, a finalist in the Young Achiever Alumni Award category at Victoria University’s 2016 Alumni Awards, a finalist in the Law Category at the Australian Human Rights Commission’s 2017 Human Rights Awards.
